BLUE FLAG

For the fifth time running, the Riviera of Cavallino-Treporti was awarded the ‘Blue Flag’ for it’s beaches, which is an annual award given by the FEE Italia for clean beaches.
Founded in 1987, the European year of the environment, the campaign spans over various European countries of the FEE, Foundation for Environmental Education.
The ‘Blue Flag’ for the beaches is assigned for: the quality/cleanliness of the water, of the coastline, the facilities and the safety, as well as general overall environmental education.
There are many requirements for the award and they regard, the absolute cleanliness of the water for bathing; no draining of industrial waters or sewage in the area, water must have no trace of pollution (oil, dirt etc.); beaches must have an adequate amount of dustbins, it must be kept constantly clean, the data of the water must be at the disposal of everyone; environmental initiatives that involve tourists and residents, adequate number of WC’s, lifeguards and lifeguard boats, absolute prohibition of cars on the beach, no camping allowed, easy access to the beach itself, respect for the prohibition of activities that are dangerous to bathers, adequate beach facilities, easy access for disabled.
